ABOUT ANYO HIROTA

Cosmic Sumie Artist
ANYO HIROTA Born in Osaka Prefecture, currently residing in Ishigaki Island Okinawa Prefecture.

I am ANYO HIROTA, known as the “Cosmic Sumie Artist.” My journey in art, which began with a childhood criticism, led me away from painting. After years of working in a family restaurant and a personal battle with cancer, I rediscovered my passion for art at 40. Inspired by a sumi-e workshop and the profound words of an artist, I began expressing my emotions through ink. This journey led to my first exhibition and the opportunity to contribute to charitable causes. My art, driven by the philosophy of bringing joy and fortune to the world, aims to add color to people’s lives.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am an artist captivated by the notion of immortalizing the ephemeral moments of nature. My work is dedicated to exploring the balance of nature’s powerful dynamism and its serene stillness, utilizing the traditional techniques of ink painting. It captures the richness of moments such as the undulating movement of a great wave bathed in the dawn light, or the silent contours of a mountain standing quietly amidst tranquility.

My art aspires to provide a deep haven of quietude beyond the daily clamor for its viewers. Within this silence, we can deepen our dialogue with the self and reacquaint with our essential connectedness as living beings. My paintings serve as conduits for viewers to listen to their inner voices and find harmony between the self and nature.

Through the flow of ink and the movement of the brush, I capture the unpredictable forms of nature. This dialogue with uncontrollable elements results in works that are invariably fresh and vivacious. My pieces are imbued with the processes of change and regeneration, hoping to offer hope and inspiration to those who view them.

This journey as an artist is also a process of understanding how my soul reacts to the beauty of nature. Through this journey, I wish to express a deep reverence not only for myself but for this magnificent world that we all share.

ABOUT ART WORKS

Dawn‘s Big Wave -Createrd in 2023

① Background of the Work:

“Dawn’s Big Wave” was inspired by the capture of a momentous big wave, one of nature’s most magnificent and powerful phenomena. In creating this piece, I aimed to explore the boundless energy of the sea and the richness of human emotion confronted by it. The big wave at the break of dawn represents the perpetual cycle of nature and symbolizes a fresh start to a new day.

② Message Conveyed Through the Work:

Through this piece, I wish to impart to the viewer a sense of the grandeur of nature and a respect and awe towards it. It is imbued with a message of hope and renewal as we welcome the beginning of a new day. At the same time, I hope that the energy and movement of the big wave provide fresh perspectives and inspiration to the viewers’ minds.

③ Common Theme Across All Works:

The common thread in all my works is the exploration of the profound beauty found in nature and its impact on our emotions. I focus on understanding our place as part of nature and deepening self-awareness within it. By capturing the emotional fluctuations caused by natural phenomena in the form of ink paintings, I also hope to offer viewers a path to find inner peace.
